You only play if enough people are playing, otherwise you are just better off focusing on single player games. I do not have enough info to give an educated guess on the matter, but I would say that multiplayer game + oversaturation + competition + expansions = expiration date. Hearthstone filled that spot for me, but come to think of it, I am slowly losing interest in Hearthstone too. In 2020 they lifted the weekly card are still left with a card game where you NEVER need to waste money because of how generous it is. They went as far as to LIMIT the amount of cards you could buy with real money.
